Re: Review of Handbook - Writing Effective Sentences

  1. Today we did exercises on the different parts of speech. I certainly did not know my parts of speech! How embarrassing! The only ones I definitely remember are noun, pronoun, adjective, and verb. It was a good review. We then went to the computer center to evaluate Dr. Rivera.

Happy belated birthdays to Geisha and Dr. Rivera!

    1. We tend to take our English language for granted because we rarely have to explain why we say the things we say. Grammar has never been my favorite subject because I have always had a hard time explaining why a grammatical structure was correct or incorrect.

    2. I think so too. I read somewhere that the English language is the most difficult to learn for non-speakers. I never thought the English language was so complex. We have so many different words for everything.

    3. It is okay. I did not know my parts of speech either. So, you are not alone. Hopefully, we will be able to remember it in the upcoming future.

  2. In class we went over the eight parts of speech. Some of the parts of speech I always forget about are the conjunctions, prepositions, and interjections. I think I forget about these parts of speech because they are large words. Words like noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, and adverb are short and easy to remember. I thought it was a good idea to go over those things I learned such a long time ago in elementary school. I think I am beginning to understand why the students have to evaluate the teachers. The school must ensure the students have professors that perform adequately.

    Happy Birthday and Happy Holidays

    1. I forget about the those parts of speech too. I never really considered them since we don't really explain the language to anyone. But if anyone asks, at least we'll know what to say. It was beneficial for some of us to go over them.

    2. I think that is a good way to ensure that the professors are performing nicely. Although not a very good method since students can just lie. I did not lie on my evaluation though. So hopefully, neither did anyone else.

    3. Yes, It would be useless if there were students who weren't not honest with what they thought of their professors.

  3. Today was a fast session, but very interesting. We did a small review on our Parts of Speech. We did the exercise as a class, but also in a pair. When we were finished with the small exercise we had to do the evaluation at the computer lab across the computer center. I think most of my answers were the strongly !

    1. Putting strongly agree for all the answers does not help the school improve.

    2. Although we should be critical with our professors' evaluations, making 'strongly agree' was very generous of you, Angelina.

  4. Today we worked with writing effective sentences. We reviewed parts of speech through exercises. Also, I find that the alternatives to our final are fair because they allow different expressions of skills in this class.

    1. I agree about having different options for our final. Although I would prefer to take the test, it is a good way for others to showcase their skills in writing and creativity.

    2. I liked that our professor was fair in giving us options. Chapters 1-16..So much studying.

    3. I also like the options. I didn't want to study 16 chapters!

    4. This is the most fair thing that has happened to me during this semester and also the postponing of the final.

  5. Happy Belated Birthday to Geisha! I'm sorry you had to spend a portion of your special day taking SATs.. Eigh.

I loved today's session. I worked with a classmate who I enjoyed working with. She was fun and hilarious. We went through the last chapter of the book, which is what we've learn in previous years but well, looks like we all needed a refresher... ha ha ha oh... It was a fast lesson - working on 2 exercises. My favorite one is the lyrics part. We had to add our word and identify the part of speech. I had loads of fun on that one.

After that, we went to the training room of the computer lab to work on our evaluations for Professor Rivera.

  6. Today in class we reviewed the eight parts of speech. There different parts of speech are nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, prepositions, pronouns, and interjections. I remember learning this in primary and secondary school. However, it was a little difficult recollect all all of it. I'm glad we went over because now I feel like I remember the difference between them all. The exercise that we completed was pretty alright. Some problems were somewhat tricky but for the most part it was simple. Then we concluded the class by doing an evaluation.

    Also,
Happy (belated) birthday to all December babies! Hope you have (had) a great one!!! & Happy Holidays to everybody!!!

    1. People tend to forget things they do not have to use everyday. The last time I had to list the eight parts of speech was six years ago.

  7. Class today was amusing. We reviewed the eight parts of speech, which was quite fun. I remember learning all of it in primary and secondary school. The addition of prepositions, interjections and conjunctions was the three I could not remember. The exercises were really fun too.
Thank You for all the birthday greetings.

  8. Today, we reviewed the eight parts of speech. I am quite disappointed because I had already forgotten most of it. I think I need to go back to high school again. Just kidding or maybe not. Anyways, we went to the training room of the computer lab to give Dr. Rivera's evaluation.

On a side note; Happy belated birthdays to Dr. Rivera and Geisha. Also, happy early birthday to the December babies if I forget. Happy Holidays.

    1. I could use a good grammar review. Didn't focus on it in high school.

    2. I guess I really needed to pay attention in middle and high school.

  9. Today we reviewed the 8 parts of speech. I definitely didn't know them as well as I should have. But it was good to go and review them again. Then we went and gave Dr. Rivera's evaluation for our class.

Happy belated birthday Dr. Rivera and Geisha. And happy birthday December people.

  10. Today was like a throwback to middle school for me. We relearned the different parts of speech and did a few exercises, followed by a faculty evaluation. Great energy today guys! One more class to go!

  11. Today just reminded me of middle school and high school; it was weird. It was also a good thing, because I'm pretty sure a lot of people forget the 8 parts of a sentence. It was good that we got to refresh our memories. Great job today everyone! Almost done! :)
