Reflection - Oct. 15

Discuss your thoughts on today's test. How did you do? What do you plan to do next time to do even better? (re: Test #2)

  1. This test was a bit harder. I got stuck on some problems and I got confused towards number 23-34... And that one bonus question about an acoustic poem... Academic guess. Haha!

I should three times instead of skimming on the day of. The chapters were similar in some aspects but I hope I get at least an A...

    1. Skimming on the day of the test usually is not very helpful. However, it surprisingly helped me out on today's test. After I reviewed the chapters before class, I forgot some information. Skimming allowed me to refresh my memory enough to take the test. Still, I know it is best to study.

    2. I asked what the acoustic poem was and she said it is the poem where you write your name vertically and with each letter make a sentence. I used Nicholas as my name because I did not want to think of a word for the letter K.

    3. Jennalynn Salas I skimmed the chapters today as well. I think I did very good on this test because the extra credit will help me a lot.

    4. I got confused on 23 to 34 as well. The acoustic poem is pretty elementary stuff which is why I think most of us forgot what it is.

    5. I got stuck on some of the answers also.
She explained the acoustic poem towards the end of class. I skipped that bonus question because I didn't know what word to use for the letter K.
Nicholas, I didn't know you had another name with a K.. but that's a good idea. I should've use my last name to do that part.

    6. I wish I was there for the end of the class when she explained the acoustic poem. I think it would've helped my grade a little. I am still satisfied with my test though because I was able to answer majority of the questions. Then again, the bonus question would have been good to fall back on if I answered some questions incorrectly.

    7. I had no idea what the acoustic poem was. I couldn't even guess.

  2. In my opinion, this test might have been a little easier than the last one. I was able to review the chapters before I came to class and that helped a lot! Although I was not able to answer just a few questions, I still feel that I did a good job. I am hoping that I get a better score than the last test we took. I think it will help me if I take notes on the chapters we read. I noticed some of the questions are based on those. I plan to get a 95% or higher on the next test. To accomplish that, I will have to study, study, and study more.

    1. Studying is the key to getting better grades in college.

    2. Studying hard always proves for a successful test result. Most of the stuff that we're tested on is related to each other, so hopefully that will make the next test easier.

    3. Good goal. Hope you achieve it, but do not study too hard where you get burnt out.

    4. Yes, it seemed a little easier than the last test. I too will study hard for the upcoming test!

    5. studying sounds good, I should do that more often :) Good job and studying before class.

  3. Today's test was not my best work. I totally forgot that there was a test today. I know for a fact that I bombed it. I didn't even know half of what was on the test. However, I tried my best guessing at some of it. One thing that was unfair was that towards the end when only a few people were in the class still taking their test, they started asking questions. I believe that all of us had the right to know but then again it was the people who finished first's loss for not staying back. Overall, the test was difficult. Next time, Im going to remind myself on my phone if theres a test.

    1. A good way to get better scores on the tests are to use the test to your advantage. I always look at the true and false questions for definition of terms.

    2. It's always a disadvantage for those who leave early I think.

    3. I forgot there was a test today too, until I checked what class we were going to be in today..

    4. I think most of us did not do so well on this test because we forgot about it.

  4. Today's test was completely unexpected, I only found out when I looked at my paper to see which room we were meeting in today. Although, I think I did well on the test today because I was given a chance to study. I only studied for about eight minutes and that was sufficient enough. For the next test I plan to study for at least 30 minutes. This test was a little bit easier than the first test.

    1. Going to class early is always going to benefit you, especially during this sort of class where we always have to check our class calendar.

    2. I agree that this test was easier than the first. It is also an advantage to go to class early.

    3. I completely agree with you that today's test was unexpected. I only studied 20 minutes before class, but then I studied the wrong chapters.

  5. Before class, I looked over chapters 5 and 6. I have the 11th edition. I really spent time studying the Writer's Guidelines. For me, it was a fairly easy test because I reviewed as best as I could. I'm not sure about 23-34 and the clustering parts. I thought hard about my answers so I hope I can get a good grade.

    1. For the clustering section, I just tried not to think to hard about it. I think it was easy because the topic was pretty general. I am also not too sure about how we were expected to do it, but I created the cluster the way I think we were supposed to.

    2. I studied the guidelines also. It's helpful because the guideline's a summary of the chapter.

    3. The writers guidelines is what helped me the most on today's test.

  6. Today's test was a bit harder than the first one we took. I also got stuck on numbers 23-24 and the clustering part. I enjoyed the poem part even if I was lost at first. Hopefully I did it right. Although the test was kind of challenging I hope I did well and get a good grade.

    1. I also had difficulty on numbers 23-24. I was not sure if we were supposed to underline a part of the support sentence like in the first paragraph or if we could underline a whole sentence. Besides that section, I think the test was easier than the first. It somewhat seemed shorter.

    2. I was unsure about my answer for number 23-24 as well!

    3. number 23 and 24 was hard because I didn't study what that was about.

    4. I had difficult time on numbers 23-24 also.
I didn't enjoy the poem part. I skipped it because I didn't know what to put for the letter K.

  7. The test was harder than I thought. Probably because I studied the wrong chapters. Oh well, hopefully I do better next time because I know I failed. I will study the right chapters next time for sure.

  8. The test was harder than the last one. I am hoping for an A on the test. It did cover the concepts of chapters 5 & 6.

  9. The test was a bit harder than the last one. I do wish I studied a little harder. I answered most of the questions to the best of my ability. The writers guidelines helped me refresh my knowledge of chapters 5 and 6. I really am hoping for an A on the test.

    1. I used the writer's guidelines to help me review as well. I try to memorize important parts of the material and it's a technique that has been helpful to me when doing quick reviews.

  10. Today's test was harder than I expected. I think I did better on the first test than the second test. I actually forgot we had a test until I saw the syllabus during my class before en100. Although, I was glad that I was able to study for a bit before the test. I had a difficult time on the last part of the fill in the blank, one of the short answer questions, and the clustering. Next time, I plan to study at least the night before the test or an hour before I have to take the test.

    1. I, too, forgot about this test! As a result my grades suffered.

    2. Don't worry, I wasn't prepared as well. At least you had time to study before the test started, unlike me.

  11. I was irresponsible and forgot to study for this test. I expected a regular class day for EN100. It was not until thirty minutes before the test that Adrian informed me about todays test. I panicked and became nervous. I drove from to my house to UOG just in time to find out what we were being tested on. I only reviewed for a few minutes, so my confidence for this test is low. The test format was similar to the previous one. The questions were tricky and I am not confident about this test. The best way for me to be prepared for the next test is to study in advance and known the test dates. That way, I will be well prepared and my chances of getting a good grade will be higher.

    2. I didn't really study too...cause i thought it was going to be easy.

    3. I think a lot of us didn't study. At least now we know to be more prepared.

  12. Today's test was a lot harder than the last test. I did not study very well, and I feel like I should have. I almost forgot that we had a test till one of my classmates informed me. I understand that I did not do my part as a student, so I will take the consequences of the actions I make.

  13. Today in class, I came in a little late finding everyone about done reviewing for test #2. I honestly had no clue we were going to have a test, so I thought I would just wing it. There were some questions that I didn't know the answers to, so I left them blank or gave a random answer. Next time I'll be more prepared and study for test #3.

  14. Today's test was a little harder than the first one. I expected to ace this test because there was not much to review on, but when i got the test i was proven wrong. It was very challenging because although i knew the information, some of the questions were similar so it really confused me. I just really hope i did ok.

  15. Today's test was harder than the first one. I was confused with some numbers. I wasn't sure what it was asking. I did study, but not as much as I should have. I shouldn't just read over the important parts in the book. I need to read everything thoroughly and understand it. I did do the extra credit so I hope that helps me a little bit. I hope that everyone did well. If not, we need to do well on the next one!

  16. I liked today's test because it was a challenge. I have this really big feeling that I either got a 'D', or 'C' because I did not really study, all I looked at was writer's guidelines and it wasn't that helpful. I like the extra credit they were interesting that made me want to learn more about quotes and poems.

  17. I forgot that we had a test today. But I had enough time to at least review the concepts we discussed in class. The test was obviously a little challenging seeing how I didn't really study. But next time I plan to know when the next test is and make sure i study for that test.
